Cypress Hill

Clue: The title of this post references a Cypress Hill song.

Today’s not quite announcement that Yahoo! would be shutting down del.icio.us had many geeks in a panic. I will go ahead and say that I was a late adopter of both Twitter and Facebook as I initially wasn’t quite sure what to do with them. I got the hang of Twitter because all my old school blogging friends were tweeting more than posting. I ended up on Facebook (again) after closing my first account when I realized how much all of my college peers were on it.

Today, I love Twitter and have been on it a lot since the semester ended. In addition, I find Facebook useful for keeping up with friends. One thing that keeps me on Facebook now, too, is that a lot of businesses I frequent and news websites I like to read are also on there.

Yet I still have no idea what to make of things like digg (I signed up for one of the new accounts when Kevin Rose—who I had the biggest crush on when he was on TechTV—posted invites on, you guessed it, Twitter) and delicious. I often bookmark sites and never ever go back to them. Just like with e-mail, if I don’t get to it right then, chances are I won’t be getting to it at all. (That’s the secret to a spotless inbox by the way.)

It could be that I just haven’t existed in a context where such a service would benefit me. I have to believe it’s quite useful if people are so up in arms about it. Two months from now, I might just be all about whatever replaces delicious.
